Getting locked out of your house is annoying, but getting locked out of your car is pretty infuriating. You may dispute this, but if you’re locked out of your house, you can wait with a neighbour or sit in the shed while you wait for either a friend/loved one with a spare key or a local locksmith to arrive to let you in. However, if you’re locked out of your car, you may be stranded in an unfamiliar location, a long way from home. Unless you’re an incredibly well-organised individual, your only spare car key will be at home in the bottom of a drawer somewhere eagerly awaiting its first use. To make matters worse, if it’s pouring with rain, you have to stand and endure it while waiting for help; there is no porch to stand under.
You could phone roadside assistance, but you may be better off calling a locksmith
So what do you do? Aside from cursing, the most common solution would be to call a road service or breakdown patrol company like the RAC to come and assist you. However, unless you are a member of the organisation and have the appropriate cover, the call-out costs can be dear. You may be thinking, well what’s the alternative? Smash a window? This only works if the keys are trapped inside the vehicle; if you’ve lost them, then this isn’t the smartest course of action to take (albeit it may temporarily relieve some stress). The alternative is actually to call a locksmith. If you live in London, then phoning a local locksmith makes more sense than calling out a large breakdown cover company; it will be much cheaper and you’re supporting local business.
Keep your locksmith’s number handy
If you’re a member of a roadside cover company then it’s likely you’ll have a membership card or form with contact details on. Failing this, you can whip out your mobile and find a contact number within seconds just by searching online. However, this only works if you’re in an area that receives a good 3G signal, and you own a Smartphone. Because of this we recommend that you search for a locksmith company – before you need one – and save their number in your phone in case of an emergency. This isn’t just handy if you get locked out of your car, but also if you’re locked out your home or if you have the misfortune of having your home burgled.
A final word of caution: There are several professional locksmiths who will provide assistance for car-related problems, but not all locksmiths will be able to help specifically with your car. UK Locksmiths are experienced auto locksmiths, so if you’re in London, you can easily call us. Further afield, you will have to rope in another creditable locksmith in your vicinity.
Don’t take the risk and assume it won’t happen. Save a trusty locksmith’s number in your phone, so if the infuriating situation does ever befall you, you know exactly who to call!
